Pehal Society and Conservation Research Group Kerala join hands for conserving Indian Wildlife
In a meeting held at Conservation Research Group Kerala, Headquarter at Cochin, CRG President Dr. Beno Pereira signed a five year agreement with Pehal Society to promote collaborative work for wildlife protection in north as well as the south India.
CRG and Pehal are tirelessly working together since last one year, and now both the organizations decided to sign a MOU to formalize the conservation efforts.
"Under this five year agreement both the organizations will do wildlife research, fund raising awareness and wildlife crime control both in north and south India. ", said Dr. Benno Preira, President Conservation Research Group Kerala.
The MoU will help both the organizations to work in collaboration for wildlife research and wildlife crime control.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Benno Periera and Sh. Rohit Singh, Secretary Pehal Society. CRG researcher Mr. Krishna Kumar was also present at the occasion.

Fifty Turtles seized from general store in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh

A retail store serving us with a wide variety of merchandise, yes.. this is what general store are made for, but some general store sell turtles.. On the tip off given by Pehal Society, UP Forest Dept seized 50 live tent turtles turtles from Rasal Ganj Market Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. At 3:30Pm informer (LA1) of Van Sipahi Team of Pehal Society informed the DFO, Aligarh about the turtles in Rasalganj Market. The DFO acted very fast and team consisting of two range officers, 2 foresters, 3 Constables and one SHO raided the general store at Rasal Ganj market. 50 live tent turtles were seized from the shop and two people were arrested. Both the traders (father & son) named Murai Lal and Naveen are currently under judicial custody.
The seizure may sound very small but it revealed a lot of trade happening in the district. The trader was selling material from his general store from last 6 years. He was sending these turtles to Gorakhpur through train. This seizure exposed the link between the turtle trade happening in Eastern and Western UP. They also told to officials that many aquarium shops in and around the district are selling turtles.
"This seizure will help in preventing wildlife trade in the district, more information will be collected after interrogation and further seizures will be done if required" said Atul Agarwal, DFO Aligarh.
" This is first seizure done by Van Sipahi Team of Pehal Society.This sucess will incourage our undercover team to work more effectively for illegal wildlife trade control " said Dr. Orus Ilyas, Vice President and Asia Coordinator IUCN Deer Specialist Group.
